I've never heard of that before and I'm a deer nerd! But I will look into it. I wouldn't really think it would be true though.. it really wouldn't make much sense for a deer to "shrink" in size as it reaches maturity or 4 years of age. I know bucks certainly don't and every deer is different.
And although I did think about getting her aged I decided not to. I might regret it in the future but at the moment I do not. I am happy to have taken her and really am humbled. I even felt kind of bad after seeing her go down. Her family group lost a mother of more than half a decade! That's a long time in the deer woods.
I bet a few older males miss her too..
I agree with your logic too. But it could be that they reach that weight at 4 on average and then maintain it. Who knows..
