I'm waiting to hear what the "it's sold at wal-mart and it's inexpensive so it must be junk" crowd has to say.
Wait no longer -
The Rifleman isn't junk because it is sold at Wal-Mart. It is, however, a pitiful attempt by Leupold (a great company that makes really good scopes and has a superb reputation of standing behind their products) at reaching down into the low-end of the scope market.
When your competition at this price point includes features such as fully-multicoatings, audible click turrent adjustments instead of the 1960's style friction adjustments, and a one piece tube, then yes, the Rifleman is not, in my humble opinion, competitive. In my opinion the Rifleman is a black eye for a great optics company like Leopold. There, I said it.
For about the same price one can get a Burris Fullfield II, Bushnell Elite 3200, or Nikon Buckmaster. These three scopes are brighter, completely fog and waterproof, and fullymulticoated. These three scopes outclass the Leopold Rifleman in my opinion. I own all three of these by the way and when comparing them side by side the Rifleman isn't in the same ballpark.
