Remember, way more hunters die falling from trees than ever get shot. If you are not using a harness now buy one. Even more so, use eye hooks at the top of your steps or sticks. The transition from steps/sticks to your stand can be the most dangerous time of all. Especially when your stand is wet or snowy.I hook upat the top of my sticks, and then re-hook above my head once I have all my gear and myself situated. Eye hooks costsomewhere around.59 at the hardware store.You simply cannot be too safe.
