I got called to pinch hit when I was playing college ball.....and walked by my teammates on my way to my first collegiate at-bat and said "I'll probably hit a dinger".

The rest was history.....and "the babe" was re-born.

When I was playing a lot of golf (Former PGA Professional)...I never was a text-book golfer...and my rounds were RARELY "pretty". I could take an ugly ball striking round and produce a good score out of it, though (which was always a lot of fun). Partners said I was scraping it around the course.....which got shortened to scrape....which got shortened to "scrap". I never thought it was great fun if they all went straight.
