Hey guys, I have a thompson center black diamond and my breach plug is stuck in the barrel, I have tried a few things and it has not moved. any ideas on how to get it out or should i just take it to a gun****h?
If you have some Kroll Oil or WD-40 pour that or spray that down the barrel and one outside of the breech plug. Then get a 7/16th or is it a 9/16th long socket with a 8"long extension rod. Put the barrel in a vice, locking it in place with the locking lug. Be sure to put some leather or something around the lug when you put that in the vice to avoid damage to it. With the ratchet and long extension you can reach in there past the hammer striker and that will lock on to the 209 nipple. Take that out first before you attempt to get the breech plug. Again spray that outside good with WD-40, Kroll Oil, or some penetrating oil. Then with the ratchet start to put pressure on it and it will normally turn out.
If that does not work take the barrel and put it in boiling water (the breech plug end) or you can pour it down the barrel. After the breech plug is very hot, have a bowl filled with ice and water. Now dip that breech plug into that ice water to cool it rapidly. Get it into the vice like described above and that will often times break the breech plug loose.
In the future, use a good breech plug grease. After 10 shots on the range, turn that breech plug back and fourth to make sure it is not seizing. You don't have to take it out, just twist it.
