I have a 338 Federal and as far as shooting performance I like it. Have not shot any game with it yet but expect it will do fine on Whitetails and Wild hogs. Another new one that might be worth looking into if you like "different" is the 300 or 338 RCM. They are both 375Ruger cut down and necked to respective calibers. According to Guns and Ammo the 338 RCM in a 20 inch barrel has performance that equals 338 rem mag in a 24 in tube. Here's a link to the article
