Default RE: Muzzle loading cow elk in New Mexico

While quartering the cow I found my bullet under the right front shoulder between the ribs and the shoulder blade, it had expanded to about the size of a quarter. When I got home I weighed the bullet and it was 202.5 grains and had retained 81% of its original 250 grains.

I was shooting a T/C Encore .50 cal using 250 grain T/C shockwave bonded bullets, 3x50 Pyrodex pellets and the VariFlame primer system using Federal small rifle primers. I couldn’t be happier with the gun, load or the results. Hopefully next year will be the year of the “Bulls” for my brother and me.
