RE: New Cartrige?
30-30 vs. 270? Two totally different cartridges. Take both of those at 300yds with 150 gr. bulletsand you tell me. 270 has 50% more energy at that range than the 30-30.Id consider that far superior. I can't see how the 10% is worth the trouble of bad feeding rifles, less ammo choices and availability, and more expensive ammo. Its has, nor ever will be, proven thatan extra 10% is thedifference between success and failure in a hunting situation. Drop means nothing if you know where you're shooting. As far as the 1000 yard competition goes, that's comparing apples to oranges. Hand weighed charges and bullets, custom bedded rifles, 10oz triggers, 15 lb guns, bull barrels. No comparasion. You're talking race car vs. family sedan.Take a look at what the African hunters use, and I DONT mean CraigBoddington. Ruger employees don't count. You'll see 7x57 for most med. game and375 H&H Magnum for the bigger stuff, .500's for the monsters. Those 3 will take anything on the continent.Biggest animal here is what, a moose or elk? Yet we have 100 choices for ammo. Harry Selby, one of the most successful PH's over there, swears by the 375, and were are talking dangerous game.
I hunt with both a 270 and 30-30. I use the 270 where I know I'll have long shots and need optics. The 30-30 comes out when I like to challenge myself to get within 50yds and take a deer with open sights. Final result is the same....meat in the freezer.
What is superior is subjective. If you like the short stuff, buy them. Personally, Id rather see a manufacture put money into making their guns better. Problem is thata better gun wont sell. New and improved does. Proof is in the marketing, not the end result.
