Lubricious is correct they are not the same. the short mags are more Accurate and the bullet drop is less than that of the regular cases. I shoot alot of 1000 yard comp and i have seen a very bigdifference in the 2 cases and if there was not that much difference why does the majorty of people shoot a 6.5 x .284 this is the same as the short mags. the little short fat case is the way to go. If you are wanting something different build or buy you a 6.5 x .284 you have to reload your own bullets but they are awesome. I started shooting one last year and love it. I also have one in a 17 lbs gun that i shoot the 1000 yards with. if you ever get a chance go shooting with a short mag and a regular case you will see the difference.just my 2 cents
