If newer is not better we would all be shooting 30/30's. More velocity, flatter shooting = far superior. The 270 WSM is approx 10% better and 10% is a bunch.
10% more horsepower.
10% more gas mileage.
10% longer life span.
10% is far superior in my book.

I doubt it. There is nothing "far superior" about those numbers, both are 130 grain Remington Core-loks. The 270 Hornady Light Magnum 130 grain beats the 270 WSM.
Short Mags are nothing but an effort to convince people that those minimaldifferences will make you a better hunter. There isvery little functionalobsolescence in firearms, so the new cartridges are how yousell more guns.
