Default RE: Calculate Spine Weight

http://www.arrowsbykelly.com/Spine_Charts.html

Kelly has done the work for us. Just keep in mind, as with all spine charts, it's only to get you close. It takes some trial and error to find the perfect spine for your bow and your release. The cleaner your release, the less arrow spine you need.

A few simple rules on arrow spine. These are also applicable to compounds.

For every inch of increase in arrow shaft length, that's a 5 pound reduction in spine.
For every inch of decrease in arrow shaft, that's a 5 pound increase in spine.
For every increase of 25 grains in point weight, that's a 5 pound reduction in spine.
For every decrease of 25 grains in point weight, that's a 5 pound increase in spine.

A 30" shaft is 10 pounds weaker in spine than the same size shaft cut to 28". An arrow with a 150 grain point needs to be 10 pounds stiffer in spine than an arrow with a 100 grain point.
