What is your budget? With that info, people could suggest a particular brand and model. I've had good luck with a 7X pair of binos for use under 300 yards and they are awesome in the denser timber. For longer distance in more open terrain, I've considered picking up a pair in 10X (I don't think 8 or 8.5X would be enough of a difference for me to buy another pair of binos).
