It seems that different areas get different results with different minerals. Your probably just going to have to try it out. I bought 2 this summer and they tore them both up. I had one fastened to a tree stump and they actually tore it off. I found it about 15 feet away on the ground.
Stuff like deer-cane etc. that needs to be mixed with water usually don't work well on my property because the soil is poor and it doesn't hold it in very well.
