RE: Remington 740 in 6MM Remington caliber
The 6mm Rem. is a great cartridge, BUT the Rem. 740' s are notably inaccurate. The reason for the development of the Rem. 742 was to correct the barrel mounting deficiencies of the 740, which was causing them to shoot patterns rather than groups. I had a 740 in .30/' 06 once, that a hunter in Alaska sold me " for a song" . It was only after I got it to the range that I found out why it had been so cheap. After a little research, I discovered that this rifle was just typical of that particular model. Nothing could be done to make it shoot.
