I shoot lefthanded but hunted with a righthand 870 for years, the ejecting shell is never going to hit you in the face but it is a little distracting seeing it whiz past. I now use a Browning BPS pump, it has bottom eject, it also has a habit of jamming on a regular basis...I almost threw it in the creek this dove season. I would look for an Ithica 37 for a left handed son.
