Just thought I would drop a post to show everyone my buck I shot Sunday.Hewas the 4th buck I seen this year, second of the morning. He came in chasing a small fawn?!?!? After giving up on the fawn, he broke away. A downed tree would make him come within 20 yards on my stand. I could tell he was fairly wide and descently tall...but thin. Didn't have a lot of time to tell much more. I pulled back and had feared I wouldn't be able to get him stopped before he passed. After a loud baaahhhh, he stopped offering me a 20 yard quartering away shot. Made a good hit, he roared almost like a lion and ran off. I couldn't see him anymore and I didn't hear him fall. Waited about a hour to get down, was going to mark the first blood, then get some help and come back in another hour. After getting down and looking on the trail, I spotted his white belly laying about another 30 yards. He only went about 60 yards and fell on a 'sandy trail' (that is why I didn't hear him fall). After field dressing, the heart indicated a perfect shot.
He is fairly wide and tall, but thin and a little busted......I'm still very proud of this animal. I've been learning the art of taxidermy for the last 6 months, so I will definitly try my luck at him (shoulder mount) I haven't measured him yet, but I think I will hold off on entering him in the contest for a while.....my game camera shows some monsters running the property and I have the best part of the season coming up.
