Default Backing out linbs for son

Aloha All ,
A friend just gave me a hoyt Raider , Im guesiing made in the 90's thats in really good condition. On the limbs it says its in the 35 to 50 lb. range. I tightned the limbs all the wall up and started backing them down for my son to try to pull back . Well its to the point I need some knowledge here. Is it possible to back the limb bolt out all the way , must be . What happens if that occurs?????[] Should I get a bow vise to compress the limbs, take the string out ,release the vise, then back the bolts out and mark them where the maximum backing out would be? How would you all go about dialing down weight?? My son can probally pull 35 lbs back so its gonna be close.
Also if anyone has any sites besides Hoyt for this bow or past history with them please let us know
Mahalo Everyone
