It sounds like a shoulder shot. I hit mine just a smidge foward of what would be a liver shot if it were broadside. Because it was quartering, it got both lungs and exited through the far front leg.

One other thing--the top of a deer's front quarter arches back a bit. If you hit 1/3 of the way down, that's right around where the front "shoulder" bone area protrudes back the furthest.
