I think you're right about Dave's wife. GONE by his request comes to mind (unless I'm mistaken, Dave is very happy to be single again).

My wife NEVER objects to my getting something(so long as it isn't female) . I got a great one THIS time, unlike the murderer I had before. And that is neither an exaggeration or a joke.
