RE: Close Shots!
Monday night I had my first ever "miss". I hit it high in the back above the spineat about 18 yards and never recovered it. Two things happened that cause me to miss the kill zone.
First, the deer was alert and looking at me when I shot. It dropped at the shot.
Second, my bow is dead on at 25 yards. I use one pin from 0 to 30. At 18 yards, I hit about 2" high. At 25 yds I'm dead on. I shoot 260 fps. Since the deer was 18 yards, I should have held the pin 2" lower to compensate for the closer distance. I forgot to do that. If the deer didn't drop I still would have hit the middle to upper lungs. But since it dropped at the shot I hit it above the spine.
