The tru oil recipe changed several years ago (about 16),and I still don't use it.
Well, if you don't mind could you put me on some verification of that. First I've heard of it and I've been buying the stuff since '83 or '84...when I decided I liked it better than boiled linseed.

You try to make it seem I don't know my stuff
Not at all, just questioning your facts/logic. Not allowed?

But I supect I've been gunsmith longer than you have.
Mebbe so, I couldn't possibly know how long you've been a gunsmith. I can tell you though I'veknown some younger than me and better, some younger than meand worse, some older and better, some older and worse. One thing I've learned about all that is, it's not what the smith thinks of himself but rather what the customer thinks of the smith...........

I was taught by someone much older than me, way better than I'll ever hope tobe, and had the disposition of a pound and a half of C4.........may that old miserable so and so rest in peace. Miss ya Virg.................

Pretty obvious when you talk about making a mess of finish instead of doing it right from the very start.
You probably misinterpreted what I said. Which we could likely get into quite a back and forth about so I'll just try to quickly clarify by adding that it's my method to use the first five coats of finish, give or take, as the steps to fill the grain to a pore free smoothness, something most stockmakers I know try to do on purpose......

YMMV, of course..............
