I had it happen to me once early on in my hunting years and I learned to use reflective tacks and even counted steps in certain places. I also had a opening day hunt ruined by some other hunter that came in just before sunrise unable to find his stand who walked all over the place loudly and then yelled to me when I made my presence known asking me if I had seen his stand which he placed the night before! After sunrise, I did see his stand in a tree about 5 yards from mine -- and my stand had been in place for most of the week!

I will admit to losing my way in the dark earlier this week though. It was EXTREEMLY FOGGY and I was walking across my own yard in the dark. My headlamp did no good and I ended up temporarily trying to figure out where I was in my own yard!
