RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
I have the eTrex Camo unit, and my buddy has a GPS12. Several times now we have put them head to head, and they match up about the same. They both seem to lock on satellites about the same. When you get in cover(and not always thick), you will lose your lock off and on. It seems that if your view is obstructed to the satellites and lasts for an extended period of time, it will ask you if you are indoors. Sometimes it is annoying that you lose your satellite lock in such light tree cover, but all in all I like my eTrex.
My buddy doesn't know what half of the features are on his GPS12, and I know most if not all of my eTrex's features. I really like the Sunrise/Sunset and Hunt/Fish Tables on my eTrex Camo. No more having to worry about exact sunset times. It adjusts to your location, so it is as accurate as possible. Nothing like milking the last seconds of legal daylight.
Anyway Moose Eyes, if you are wanting the basic features that are easy to operate, look at the basic eTrex or eTrex Camo. If you want a few more bells and whistles, look some of the other higher priced models. My buddy loves his GPS12, but the damn thing just confuses me. Never forget to take the compass though because batteries will fail. The eTrex has awesome battery life though. I am still on the same batteries that I put in before my turkey trip. And I used it a bunch over there marking roost sites, comparing spots with the map, etc. I give the eTrex Camo 2 thumbs up.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
Hunt hard, live right, and tell your kids you love 'em!
