1st BUCK OFF MY FARM
Well it finally happened for me.We bought this farm in 1998 and I've taken numerous does off of it, but never any bucks because Inever saw one I thought was big enough to shoot. I always said if I shot a buck, It would be because I wanted to mount it. Well I'm a Truck Driver now so the bowhunting took a back seat this year.(pun intended) I got my early muzzleloader tag this year and hunted hard all week. I got a great doe opening day (10/13/07) and then a button buck I thought was a doe on Tuesday last week (10/16/07). On Saturday (10/20/07) I saw this big guy show up in one of my CRP fields about 7:45 am chasing off a younger buck who was chasing a doe. I finally got him within 100 yards and dropped him in his tracks with my Traditions Pursuit Pro .50 cal muzzleloader using 130 grains of 777 powder and a Hornaday .44 cal full metal jacketed hollow-point bullet in a .50 sabot. He not only is the first buck I've shot offmy farm, but the biggestbuck of my life. I never green scored him but the taxidermist and the guys at the meat locker and myself all agree he should go in the 125-135 range. He weighed in at 238 lbs. field dressed so we figured he was about 260 on the hoof.
