Thanks to all for the responses. I mainly wanted something with some UUMPH for when I went out to play the 500yd targets at the 1,000 yd range. I've been looking for something affordable and extremely flat shooting and figured that the 7mm STW was the ticket. I've been "prodded" to buy a .300 Ultra but 7 is my favorite number and I just love 7mm rifles.
The 7mm Rem Mag I currently own is my corn / beanfield rifle and my Marlin 1894SS is my brush and woods gun. I play with my
Savage 10FP (.308) out at the range, but like I stated I just want something with a bit more Umph.
I told my wife I was thinking about rechambering the Model 70 and she said "Didin't you say they don't make the model 70's any more?" and I said "Correct." Then she said "Well you won't be rechambering THAT rifle. I suggest you find something else to play with and leave that one in it's original condition." At that point I said a quiet "Thank You" to the man above for the green light from my wife to by yet ANOTHER rifle."
Hmmm, perhaps a Tikka T3 in 7mm RUM.
