Bruce, I fixed your post for ya..

ORIGINAL: brucelanthier

I saw that show and afterwards the guide said he was glad she turned after he shot in the water because he really didn't want to shoot her. There were 2 or 3 cubs with her which is why she charged. He was an experienced guide and if he would have shot her I do not think HE would have lived. The gun he had was specifically for this reason so I am sure, in his hands, it would have been effective.
My wife's cousin was once a hunting guide's helper (did the crap work) in the Yaha Tinda and took out clients for elk and there were rare occasions where clients shot Grizzlies without tags for whatever reason.. Anyhow, apparently they don't slow down much from a rifle and have a good few minutes of adrenalin and fury to do what they do best.. Nothing ever happened to a client but he's seen enough angry wounded grizzlies to not want to shoot them. Period.. He reccommends bear spray or the fetal position.

I also know a mountie who responded to a nuissance grizzlie a few years back in Southern BC.. He was helping the Conservation officers trap the bear and the officers warned him that if things go south an the bear charges, he should just shoot himself in the head with his shot gun, that way it will be painless. Obviously he was kidding (may even have had a recent ticket) but there is some truth to that comment..

The guide shooting in the water only demonstrates his vast experience whichand it saved the day.
