RE: Would you hit balls all year to play just 18 holes?
Forgive me if I missed this somewhere, but if you make a bad putt, you won't have some badly wounded groundskeeper walking around out there. You owe it to the deer (or whatever you hunt) to practice as much as you can. For some, that is more than others, but practice all you can. I saw six deer last night and did not take a shot because the "right" shot was not there. I was watching "Tred Barta" on VS the other night and watched him run through some brush, then stop and take a quick shot at a RUNNING caribou at 45+ yards. ?? Why are they even showing stuff like that on TV? Practice is the only way you will know what is a proper shot for you.
