It has been 6 years since I had gotten a deer with a bow. Lots of missed opportunites. First day in PA two weeks ago hit a doe just as she turned and hit the shoulder. She bled for a abit but I never got her.
Today, I go back to the same spot. Been sitting there for about 1.5 hours when I look down in the woods and see some deer going the other way away from me. To me I thought that was weird because they usually go down the hillclose tonight time not back into the woods. Well about 5-10 minutes later I look down there and they are coming towards me. Now I sit on the ground so with them coming towards me was gonna be challenging. Now I am making sure to see if there are any bucks, if so Im gonna take him if hes legal. All doe. So now I need to pick one out. There were 5 deer in all. Two fawns, last years fawn and two older does. Well Im going after the bigger doe. They cut to my left and they are about 50 yards away, too far to shoot. They were looking to cross the pipeline. All of the sudden they stop and come back up towards me. They all have their noses in the air(thank God I had a scent blocker on). They cut towards my left again and give me a nice broadside shot about 30 yards away. Problem is I need to pull up without any of the 5 seeing me. At one point they all had their heads down. Pulled up, took careful aim and let her fly. They all scatter and I see the doe as she gets to the pipeline with blood already running down her side. Pipeline was only about 20 feet away. Now I knew I had a good shot. Waited my allotted time and go down towards where she was standing. Blood after about 5 feet, no arrow though. First thought was, it went through and hit another deer. Followed the trail, it was easy to follow and also looking for my arrow. Now there is a good blood trail, at first. Then it starts getting smaller and Im thinking oh no not again. She actually quit bleeding. But I was able to see where she kept stumbling. Looked up and saw her laying there, she went about 100 yards. When I got up to her, I saw that I hit a little high and hit the aortic artery, hence the reason for splattered blood. Oh yeah the reason I couldnt find my arrow, it was still in her. Im just glad this one ended in success and my dry spell is over. The only picture I have was taken with my camera phone. My bow is laying on her hips to show how big she was.
