Value for your money? Savage, hands down. The Savages aren't the prettiest looking rifles in the world (not the worst either), but they've got it where it counts. The actions are strong, the Accu-Trigger is excellent, the best trigger on a factory mass-production rifle without a doubt, and they have a well deserved reputation for great accuracy. I have a Model 111GCNS in .30-06 w/Accu-Trigger and very nice detachable box mag that looks like a floorplate when in the rifle, that I like a lot. A fairly nice looking gun (I like wood), and the price was right. I bought mine brand new with a small blemish on the stock for $450. The original price was $525.

Savage Model 11GCNS (short action).
My recommendation would be to buy a Savage and take the money you save and buy the nicest scope you can afford.
