Default RE: cost per shot

Loads I use in my Savage 10ML-II:

Light load (1800-1900fps):

Hornady Mag Express XTP bullet = $0.37
40gr Accurate Arms XMR-5744 powder = $0.11 ($18/can, 7000gr/lb, 175 shots/lb)
Winchester 209 primer = $0.05

Total = $0.53/shot

Heavy load (2350fps, equivalent of 150gr or 3 pellets Triple 7):

Hornady 300gr SST = $0.50
45gr Vihtavouri N-110 = $0.12 ($37 for 2lb can by weight, 7000 gr/lb = 155 shots/lb)
Win 209 = $0.05

Total = $0.67/shot

Compare above SST load to using 3 T7 Pellets or 150gr loose T7 powder:

3 Hodgdon T7 50gr pellets: $0.70 (100/box @ $23.00, 33 shots/box +1 extra pellet) = $1.25/shot total

150gr/vol Hodgdon T7 2F (about 105gr/weight assuming 100gr/vol = 70gr/weight if I remember correctly, I'm giving the benefit of the doubt to the powder): $0.29/shot ($19/lb, 66 shots/lb) = $0.84/shot Total

$0.17-$0.58/shot savings with "magnum" ML performance...and no crud ring, no swabbing, no corrosion, no gagging/blinding smoke cloud, no messy or hasty cleanup. Hate me all you want, "traditionalists", but I can't see any benefit to shooting any of the not-quite-smokeless powders, when you could just shoot the original black powder substitute and save money, time and hassle.

God I love my Savage!
