Well, we had a great antelope season this weekend. My buddy from KS. had the first go at filling his tag and he got a real wide 13" buck about 4 hours into the season. We got it de-boned and on ice and back out to find one for me. It only took us about 3 more hours of looking to find one of the better bucks that we had located on Friday, before season opened. I put a quick stock on and shot my buck at about 200 yards, which doesn't seem like much, but we had winds that were gusting over 40 mph. I was able to lay prone with my bi-pod for the shot, which made it very do-able. My buck is13" plus, heavy with a good spread. The area that we hunted just doesn't have the genetics to grow big antelope, big is 16" or better. There has only ever been one buck shot on this ranch that was over 15"s. Lots of 11"-12" bucks and smaller. SO, got meat in the freezer, plus my buddy donated his meat to me as well, since his family just doesn't eat much wild game. My wife and I really like antelope.
Might also mention, that I had my bow with us all weekend, in case of a BIG mule deer spotting, But although we saw mule deer, saw 7 bucks this morning, we never saw any big ones. I'm planning on going back out next Friday to concentrate on them. Hoping the ranchers will start seeing a big one or two and can give me a heads up as to where they are hanging out at.
