Sure the 308 is a good sheep caliber. I used the 30/06 on my hunt here in Colorado. The 308 &30/06 are near as equal as there is. The stock will get marred. I scratched & gouged my stock plenty from the rocks & several falls in the talus slopes. But each one of those is a memory now, just like that 7/8 Ram in my den !! You may want to think about a fiberglas stock---I WILL rain, sleet, snow and hail on you in sheep country.

BJ is correct get in the best shape you can. I used a stair stepper in 2--30 minutes workouts every day & my regular routine of free weights. I upped my cardio workout to everyday the last 3 months before the hunt. I still lost about 12 -15 pounds on the hunt !!!

Sheep hunting is an addictition, it' s only cure is advancing age !!!
