RE: 6 - Official Team 6 Thread
Well guys, yesterday morning didn't start out exactly how I wanted it. I set my alarm on my cell phone for 5 a.m. and for some reason it went off at 4 a.m. Well, I just turned my phone off and set my actual alarm for 5:15 a.m. and went back to sleep. I wake up not to the sound of my alarm but to sunlight hitting my eyes, I roll over and Tiffany woke up and I just said "I can't believe this". My alarm never went off, apparently it is broke so I didn't get up till 8 a.m. and it wasn't worth heading out and messing up an area by spooking deer on the way in.
Yesterday evening Tiffany and I headed out to try and get her her first buck/deer ever. We jumped 3 doe right as we walked from the landowners backyard into a clearing in the woods where he has a gazebo and party area set-up. We headed over to our stands and get settled in at 4:00 p.m. At 5:10 p.m. those does walk right behind me and head towards a golden rod field. Tiffany was set up about 60 yards from me and she couldn't see these deer. As the afternoon went on I quickly realized that the oaks in that party area were really dropping acorns because I watched deer after deer come out and feed in there while we had nothing near us. I did have 8 doe come in right under my stand, first was a doe with her two fawns and they were literally right below me munching on acorns when the other group (2 doe and 3 fawns) started moving in and they were spooking each other. The does were all stomping at each other and they would snort at each other then run for a little bit and come back to check each other out. It was kind of frustrating but it was fun to watch. I also watched a fawn nurse off its mothers which seemed very strange for this part of the season, especially because it was a fairly large fawn already!
I'll be out tomorrow morning with my buddy in a area that looks like my best spot for an early season brute.
