RE: Hey Ohio Deer Hunters
Kcriss,
Let me give you a real good piece of advice if you have never hunted that area. Stop at the DNR office in Marietta. It is on the main drag down past the Harley shop and they will sell you some maps for something like 10 dollars and these maps will show you what all property is public hunting. Like I said I have hunted arround there for 10 years and I know for a fact that some folks that live out there will tear down the public hunting signs so you will drive right by thinking it is private property. There is much more public land along rt26 than I ever thought there was but it seems like all of the hunters seem to concentrate arround the Hune Bridge area or arround the next campground down the road near the watershed. I have encountered some real nice deer out there but the biggest buck I have ever saw was last year near the first campground on rt26. Since 97 I have taken a 130 class and a 150 class on some private property along 26 but they were pushed off the public land by other hunters.
Just get your maps and hunt the public land that is not so clearly marked as public and you should get into some deer. I will say though the folks out there are not really into the management aspect of hunting and they shoot whatever walks by. Over the last 10 years I can tell a big difference in the amount of deer I see every year.
