RE: Autumn Assassins
I slipped out last night with the north wind and cool weather for an evening hunt. I got to my stand and tied the bow to the string then climbed the stand to only find out that I left the other end of the string on the ground. Climb down and grab the string and head back up. Get settled in and wait and wait until about 7:00 and the cloud cover was making it hard to see and I hadn't seen anything yet nor did I hear anything either. So I start to pack things up. Put the quiver on the bow and tie her up to the string let the bow down on the ground. Then I got the seat off the tree stand and put the backpack on and then unstrapped the harness when I hear a twig snap!
Look to the west and there is a buck not 10 yards from my stand. He came from the west where I have limited visability. He was right behind a branch of a tree right next to the one I am in. He was probably a 110" buck but it was fairly dark so I could be off either way. It looked to be at least a 4X4 anyway. So I just sat there and watched him unitl he finally got downwind of me and new something was up and went the other way. A second deer came out from the same spot a few minutes after the first but I couldn't see that one very well.
It was a great night to get out though. Nice and cool and I even got rained on for a couple minutes.
