Here's a formula for whitetail deer. Take the live weight X 78% = Field dressed weight X 75% = Hanging weight X 75% = edible meat.

In other words the formula for a 200# deer would look like this.

200# X .78= 156#
156# X .75= 117#
117# X .75= 87.75#

Each species will vary slightly. For instance, a pronghorn has a higher internal organ percentage of body weight when compared to the whitetail.
Whats the difference between hanging weight and field dressed weight?
