Default Homemade scent killer questions?

A question for you that make your own scent killer-

The formula is 1 gal distilled water, 1 gallon of 3% peroxide, 2 cups of baking soda, and 8 oz. of scent free soap.

I keep hearing, do not use the peroxide from the stores in brown jugs. And to stir it up in a bowl, then pour into a jug. DO NOT SHAKE UP IN JUG.

Do you have to use the peroxide at all? What exactely does it do. And why not use store bought peroxide. I can't notice any odors?

And why do you not shake it up in a jug? I'm really confused on that one.
