Default RE: Worst opening day story? Who has it?

This past saturday wasn't the greatest opener. Forecast was for rain, and rain it did. No worries, afternoon was supposed to be clear. Nobody said anything about WINDY, but oh well. Got to the land I was going to hunt and realized my hoist rope was in one of the bags I removed from my truck at home to make room. Well, brilliant me, I grab a spool of fishing line. Well, you know mono snags on EVERYTHING, so by the time I get up the tree I'm hoisting a nice size branch along with my bow. Pop. Okay, tie the line off on my bow holder and down with my climber I go. Tie to the bow, grab up all the messed up line from first botched attempt, back up the tree. Hoisting the bow up, almost close enough to grab, Pop. Down goes the bow, maybe 15 feet. Didn't sound to horrible, down the tree I go again. Bow looks good, strap the bow to my climber this time and up for the 3rd time.

My climber is usually pretty quiet. This day, sitting there, I hear a loud pop. Didn't feel anything shift... shrug it off after a quick inspection. Pop again! Nothing structural, chains ok, platform okay, seat straps maybe?? Well everything looks okay and no more noise, but every deer in the county heard something. Luckily, this was all about mid afternoon. Still have the best part of the day.

Enter the WIND. Boy was it windy. And swirling. Didn't see anything moving at all all evening. Just before dark, wind dies down. East of me, its dark in the woods. West of me, between the wood edge I'm sitting in and the pond is a nice bright funnel.Of course, a couple of does are munching acorns just out of range on the dark side, slowly making their way to me. They get within range, but its too dark to shoot. Couldn't tell if there were any saplings blocking vitals, etc. I watched them walk. Oh well...
