Default Range Report

Today I went out and shot my 58cal Renegade. I was sitting on a small chair made for blinds and using shooting sticks. I was shooting pretty good. I made a clover once and when shooting the sand bucket I shot 2 in the same hole! I was using Mink Oil and Hoppes as patch lubes. I like both but for hunting I will use the Mink. I think it is a little better. I was shooting 120gr Goex FFG with a dry wad and a .570 Hornady ball. I shot 2 shots into the a 5gal bucket of sand. They did not expand as big as I thought but they sure expanded.I will post some pics and more info on those later.

I wanted to see how the 525gr Hornady Great Plains would expand to but I did not try them on paper first because I just wanted to see how they expand. I shot them with 120gr FFG!!! That gun kicked harder than a mule! I never hit the bucket and did not want to shoot them anymore after 3 shots. They are really hard to load if the barrel is not clean. I would get to the end of the QLA on the top band and it would not budge! When I was done shooting some of them I swabbed the bore and pieces of lead came out! Roundball cleans while you shoot and doese not lead! I had fun trying them though. If I decide to try them again I will start at 90gr and try to build a charge on paper. The only reason I didnt was because I just wanted to see how they would expand with 120gr FFG.

Overall a good day at the Range! I will try to go out 1 or 2 more times before I go elk hunting October 5th. I probably wont have time to get the 54cal out and shooting it before deer so I will have to use the 58cal with my elk load of 120gr FFG and a roundball since I know how it shoots. I know that is way more than I need but if I am going to shoot I need to shoot the 58cal and I wont have time to get shooting the 54cal. I have not shot my 54cal since I got it back from TC.
