RE: BACK TO XX78-GOODBYE CARBON ??????
See, I told you I could learn something. lol I agree that there are a lot of junk carbons out there, I've tried a lot of them. With my Easton Axis shafts, I have not seen what is being described here. I base my opinion on 1 dozen shafts that I bought 3 years ago and a half dozen 4 years ago. I stil have 8 left, the 10 missing,6 were stolen with the rest of my equiptment,3 were lost hunting, 2 broken hunting, both spine shots with complete broad head penatraion, both deer flopped to break the arrows. My favorite arrow has taken at least 6 deer, layed in the woods for 6 months after 1 deer, and recently shot into a brick. I can't get rid of these arrows, they've all been refletched at least a dozen times and they keep right on performing. None of the issues mentioned.
My bow hunting mentor is a good guy, fills his freezer every year. Maybe now with his new bow and arrows he'll be able to beat me at the range. He watched me get 6 deer my 1st year, he got 5. He's kind of a traditionalist, not the best shot but has prooven time and again that the old way works to fill the freezer. I have prooven to him time and time again that his way isn't the only way and I'm prabobly a bad influence on him.lol He's using a release now, got a new bow now, using carbon arrows now, put a whisker biscuit on his new bow (I had one, didn't like it), will be interesting to see what happens, think I've got to step up my game another notch again, lol
He took a look at my drop away and like a caveman shook his head and said "too many parts." lol He'll never trust my pendulum sight, he's been waiting 7 years to tell me he told me so as he struggled with different tree stand heights and distances picking the correct pin to use as I was stacking venison in the freezer.( I got him a range finder last year and welcomed him into the 21 century. He loves it) His old bow was lucky to chuck his aluminum arrows at 70 lbs draw, more than 200 FPS . His old bow, old string, was shooting rainbows. He still filled his freezer last season, and mine,(was my worst year ever) Should have seen his face when they offered him a whole $35 for his old bow!
So my mentor isn't the best thing since sliced bread. Just a good guy who I look up to as a fellow hunter. He saw that I liked to put powder burns on deer while gun hunting, was amazed at what I was doing with my single shot NEF 30-06 Handy rifle, knew I had A small village to feed, talked me into bow hunting and gave me a chance to try it. He liked permenant stands over bait, it since then has become illegal, we've made the transition and have grown to Be better hunters together. It's funny that he's now the one with speed freak equiptment. His new PSE bow is advertised at 350 fps. With that kind of speed he could fill his aluminum shafts with lead and be as fast or faster than my bow. I believe he's got the acc arrows too. Will be interesting to see if he ends up feeling just like you guys. After shooting my arrow into a brick, he must have figured the bigger the carbon the better. Not sure, he told me he got the full sized Easton carbons, didn't tell me which ones. I think the smaller diameter is the biggest carbon advantage and the qualaty control, .005 isn't enough to keep me off a 1" sticker dot target at 20 yards. By time I use up my Axis St's, they'll have something even better than the full metal jackets. If you like what you are using, keep using it, my mentor and I have prooven that the deer get dead either way as long as you are confident in what you are using.
