I'm sure a lot it was staged, don't know story behind the clip. The shot scene sure looks real to me though.
And yes, this was a self defense shot as was Howards charging lion shot. I've been to 3-d shoots where the boar shot is re-created.Check out Rick Welch's stuff though for non-charging head shots.
If one is running at you that's a different story. You are shooting to protect yourself.
I think I'd get out of the way.
