Default Cleaning a semi auto

Really didn't know were to post this, so I figured the reloading would be best... I've been cleaning my Rem 750 from the muzzle end... I've been using a Tipton carbon rod and the brass patch jag... I'm being carefull when putting the patch in the muzzle end to make sure I dont hit the crown... I'm just pariniod that I'm going to ruin the rifle accuracy... Do you think It's ok to clean this gun like that???... I've used a bore snake before and really don't like them much...
