RE: Zeiss Conquest vs. Leupold VX-III
Woodseye, thanks for your reply. As to was it a bad scope, who knows. I mounted the Burris FFII on my 308 and the Signature Series on my 7 mag, compared that with my Vari. X III already on my 270. I only really tried it for a week and in that time at the range in the evening till dusk on 4 occasions & one time I did head out to the country. However these were the 50 bells(in which I mounted), so they would gather more available light. While the Signature Series and Loopy were noticably clearer and better(which should be indicative of the price difference), I never saw the same out of focus...you mentioned with the FFII. I knew I never wanted it, having been accustom to my Vari x III on my Rifle and opted for the Sign. Series simply based on price vs another leupold. I have been told the Sign, Series is miles above the FFII, but in all honesty if I never compared or had a loopy I am not sure what I would have done. I use to be about buying as brand name or top dollar, now I just have too many rifles that I am more about what will it work and a little more price aware. The 7 mag is my now all arounder and I had thought I would more than likely switch over my loopy but I haven't yet and it performed excellent this fall...however time will tell what stays on top. Like I mentioned I was really impressed how well they tracked on adjustment-Burris. I just wanted some input on the FFII since my buddy is looking and I would hate to be the cause for a poor desicion. My limited experience with Burris has been excellent so far, but hardly able to base a gaurantee on it. The elites I have been are pretty good, but I really hate the styling with the 50mm objective and much prefer others in that regard. Plus my experience is they track aweful...but maybe that isn't something to be concerned with...just my pet peeve!!
Thanks again, I think I'll keep my eye on the FFII and weed through what I hear. In the end I can only offer a suggestion and given a lower budget and what he is use to I would say a number would be a vast improvement to his eye!
