RE: Hunter's Greatest Advantage
I think it is obvious that the superior intellect of man is the greatest advantage that the hunter has over the deer. Of course this is a very large, sweeping statement -- and I mean to include all that sweep in my argument -- but even narrowing down to the area of tactics I think this still applies. Whilea rifle is a technical tool (produced by the intellect of man) provides great advantages, cunning intelligence can put man within 15 yards of his quarry, a distance at which a stone tipped spear could be used to kill a deer. For example, identifying a funnel feature in a hunting area, placing oneself advantageously proximate to this funnel taking advantage of the wind direction, concealing oneself well. I think this intelligence of hunting, which can definitely be developed and honed by hunters, is the key factor.
