It really REALLY depends on the woods and the situation. I've literally shot deer while I could see my truck and I've had to walk a long ways in other cases. Len used to have a stand overlooking aswimming pool complete with a "HUBBA HUBBA". Each stand, woods, and herd is a separate critter. Farm critters are used to seeing trucks and tractors in fields. Mountain deer aren't used to seeing anything. Suburbia deer have seen it all from fluffy to joggers. Each situation is a separate deal.
