Default Mountain rifle

I got my order of Tom Fuller black english flints, so i went and changed out the arkansas sawed flint " JUNK" Put the new TF flint on, wrapped in lead and went outside. The rifle has been loaded for close to Two weeks with 80 grains FFG triple 7, .530 PRB and there was an ever so slight, Ka-boom and it went off. Dead center but 5" low @ 100 yards. Second shot was loaded with 80 gns FFFg triple 7 and a PRB, BAM! No ka-boom, no slight delay, It was like shooting my percussion rifle! 2nd shot was about 2 1/2" lower than the first. Loaded up #3 and again, BAM! Dead center with #1 shot but 2 1/2" to the left. I think i got the load worked out for the rifle, but im going to swab the barrel clean and let it cool down and try 90 gns FFFG triple 7 and see how it does with grouping.

After shooting the flintlock today, i'll be packing this rifle with me also when hunting season comes around.

With the arkansas sawed flints, i'd have pure hell getting them to spark and when they would spark, the flint would just break and have to be knapped. These Tom Fuller flints are a dream come true for a guy shooting a flintlock! I bought a dozen of them for $21 shipped. It seems expensive until you mount one of these babies on.

On second thought, why burn up more powder when i can just adjust the sight up a wee bit
