IA, All the boys gave good advice I personally have taken elk with Wasp SST 90 grains. Then used the same head on a deer later that year. From my experience elk huntin though I can tell DO NOT flirt with that shoulder blade practice shooting and hit him in the sweet spot. Elk are big strong animals if you don't double lung him they can go along way. My friend ran elk through from his shoulder throught his guts and into his inner thigh, he only took one lung though and it took us close to 24 hours to recover that elk. Even if you do get lucky and punch through the shoulder blade you would need a lot of KE to go deep enough to get the far side lung.
