The few guys that did get busted in them I wonder if another scent did you in i.e. your breath, something on your clothes, etc...??

You've just seen real-world experience from two of the guys who probably put in more time in a treestand than 99% of anyone else on this forum... so we're bound to come up with a couple examples on the other side of the fence after all the time we log. (I'm speaking of myself and Antler Eater). I'll still take my chances in rubber boots, most of the time.
Yes, you want to tuck your pants into your boots for the reason for your above question: to try to keep from spreading any scent your clothes may have inadverntently picked up. I store my mine in a Scentlocker carbon bag after washing them with Fresh Earth laundry detergent, but I still like to tuck them in.
