I just started using my D-80 with a Nikon 80-400 VR lens. I am very pleased. In a perfect world I would like to have a lens with a lower, and contant max apeture (200-400 f2.8 would be nice, but I cannot afford that).The 80-400 lens isslow to focus, but I have found that manual focus at long distance alows me to catch some good action shots. It keeps the camera from refocusing on brush and roaming does. Set your ISO to 500+ and you should be fine in low light. I also recommend a tripod or monopod. They are essential. Good luck.
