I'm using the Nikon 440 as well and haven't had any complaints so far.

I haven't even attempted to range anything past 80 yards, as thats the farthest I practice.

I used it this last turkey season in my Matrix and it ranged through the netting perfectly.

I think I paid $200 for mine, but I purchased it last fall and can't remember for sure.

As with any kind of glass, you get what you pay for. The 440 works perfectly for what I use it for, I don't need to range 1,000+ yards, and if it fogs up in fowl weather, no problem; I range my stands prior to hunting.
